US President Donald Trump expressed optimism this Sunday about a possible ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, speaking of "very positive talks," a point he has reiterated in recent months. "The Israelis have accepted my terms. It's time for Hamas to accept as well. I have warned Hamas of the consequences of not accepting. This is my final warning. There will not be another!" he stated in a message posted on his Truth Social network. Hamas has expressed its willingness to embrace the "ideas" presented by the US.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has threatened Hamas with annihilation if it does not release the hostages and hand over its weapons. “This is a final warning to the Hamas murderers and rapists in Gaza and in luxury hotels abroad. Release the hostages and hand over your weapons, or Gaza will be destroyed and you will be annihilated,” Katz said in a statement posted on his social media account, amid an intensified offensive against Gaza City following Israel’s announced plans to seize control of the town.
Last Thursday, Sumar asked the Socialist wing of the government to impose sanctions on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his cabinet ministers Israel Katz Itamar Ben Gvir and Bezalel Yoel Smotrich. Specifically, they are asking that all of them be declared personae non grata and, where appropriate, be barred from entering the country "for their incitement to hatred, forced starvation, and ethnic cleansing" of the Palestinian people. They are also urging the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) to have the government sign the Hague Group Declaration, signed by several countries, and to make a "formal commitment" to fully implement its legal and diplomatic measures to uphold international law and show solidarity with the Palestinian people.
In recent days, pro-Palestinian protests have taken place in Spain to express their opposition to the participation of the Israel Premier Tech team in the Vuelta a España, which decided this weekend to remove its name to avoid further disturbances. On stage 15, Spaniard Javier Romo of the Movistar team was forced to abandon the stage after being interrupted by a spectator carrying the Palestinian flag. This climate has prompted the Prime Minister to highlight for the first time that Israel is committing "genocide."

Second Vice President and leader of Sumar, Yolanda Díaz, explained this Saturday that they were working with the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) to "move forward" on this package of measures against Israel. "Why are we doing it with Russia and not with Israel? Is there a double standard in international law? No, there isn't. We have to sever all trade relations with Israel and we have to immediately expedite Sumar's proposed law on the arms embargo," she stated.
The Prime Minister's statement comes after the two coalition partners, PSOE and Sumar, have been negotiating measures against Israel with the intention of approving them at the Council of Ministers on Tuesday, September 9.
